Total of 233 rice accessions was evaluated for morphological characteristics in 2013 wet season at 5 rice research centers, namely, Pathum Thani, Chachoengsao, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Prachin Buri and Ratchaburi. Results showed morphological variations among the accessions. In lowland rice, the accession with the earliest heading date was E-TOK KHAO (G.S. No. 5635); the latest heading date was SAMPOW TAWNG (G.S. No. 3590); the highest panicle number was LAO TAEK (PTT5602); the longest panicle was E-KHIAW NAWN TUNG (PTT5612). Evaluation of rice genetic resources was conducted in 2012 wet season at 5 rice research centers, namely, Pathum Thani, Suphan Buri, Chachoengsao, Prachin Buri and Ratchaburi. Morphological data were collected from 280 accessions. Lowland rice accessions with the earliest heading date was IR 58025 B (G.S. No. 18443); the latest heading date was KHAO SUPAN (G.S. No. 9585); the highest panicle number was SUPHANBURI 2 (G.S. No. 13746); the longest panicle was KHAO PAHK MAW (G.S. No. 991). The major rainfed rice growing area in the Lower North region of Thailand has good soil fertility. It has high potential to produce good rice varieties including aromatic rice. However, at present, Nahng Mon S-4 is the only aromatic, intermediate amylose content rice variety being officially released. Therefore, a selection for an aromatic, intermediate amylose content, high yield and resistant to major disease and insect pest is needed to provide the alternative for farmers. The promising line designated PSL04106-28-1-2-1-1-1 was obtained the double cross being HPSL1/Mudgo//HSRN/SPR90116-15-2-2-1-1///SPR90116-15-2-2-1-1 during 2002-2004.
